David Burch FMAsolo David Burch

At the beginning of this month (March 2026), I finally took the big step in my career progression, which is to become an airline pilot. The Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force, is an extraordinary program for cadets (teenagers 12-21) and adults alike! The CAP fostered my love for aviation and along with my progression through the program (I am a Cadet Captain leading my own squadron now), I truly realized that I wanted to fly planes for a living. Now, I have finally taken the first big step, and I have started flight training for my Private Pilot’s License! Currently, I have logged almost 3 hours, but I am taking off weekly. Flying around Vermont in the winter is beautiful. If you’ve flown to Vermont, whether GA or commercial, let me know in the comments!

One thing I am looking forward to is getting a $100 hamburger with my instructor. If anyone has suggestions for places around the KRUT area, I welcome the comments. I am honored to have been selected as a finalist for the FMA Solo Program.

Until next time, see you in the air!

P.S. The picture with me on the runway was legally taken; I was interning with the airport manager for the day.
