An update from a proud mom:
“I just wanted to send an update to you on my daughter Jocelyn’s progress on her aviation journey. Last year she was one of the finalists for the solo scholarship program (she had fun joining you for Sun ‘n Fun). This past autumn she worked hard balancing her last year of competitive marching band with starting her flight training during an active hurricane season. She is flying out of an amazing location, Space Coast Regional Airport in Titusville, FL – with both amazing views of the NASA facilities and the Warbird Museum at her airport. She soloed on November 26th. Right now, she is waiting for clear weather, daylight, and an available plane to occur simultaneously for solo cross countries.
In the autumn Jocelyn was selected for our district’s all county orchestra and next week she will perform in her final all county band (She’s made it all 8 years she was eligible).
She applied and was accepted to both Embry Riddle in Daytona and Lynn University in Boca Raton. She is planning on attending Lynn as it felt like it had the right balance for her two passions. At Lynn she will be in the aviation program, but since the school has a prestigious music conservatory, she will also get to surround herself with musicians and find opportunities for music fun.
And just recently Jocelyn was declared a Ray scholar from the Merritt Island EAA. “
If in Florida on the Space Coast tomorrow, 1/25, Jocelyn will be volunteering at a Young Eagles rally on Merritt Island before heading back to Orlando for her 9th and final all county performance.
Jocelyn Bew was a finalist for the 2024 FMA Solo program and performed with the FMA Brass last year at Sun ‘n Fun in Lakeland, FL.
