Bassist Awarded Swing Wing Scholarship

We are happy to announce that Keatin Hertz, FMA student member and 2024 FMA Solo nominee, has been awarded the 2024 FMA Swing Wing scholarship. Keatin will attend the New York Hot Jazz Camp this April in the Big Apple. “As a participant in the New York Hot Jazz Camp, I will continue my musical journey and growth as a jazz musician. I hope to further expand my knowledge, refine my skills, and explore new avenues of creativity. In particular I am really looking forward to the musicianship and theory opportunities. What a banner year! Having received nearly triple the nominees of any of the previous years, the process to select finalists was a long and arduous task. Many nominees found the checklist to be important and followed it to the tee. Some decided, after reflecting, that perhaps this wasn’t something they really wanted. In any event, all nominees belong to the largest collection of passionate pilot-musicians in the world. A network beneficial for advancing their goals in aviation and music. At the beginning of March, Seda Voca, one of the choirs I am a part of, went to Jazz Contest and received a gold rating. “Hello again everyone! After a very busy semester of flying, work, and classes, I finally have time to update everyone about my various adventures. I passed my Commercial Multi-Engine checkride on December 4! I had hoped to finish multi earlier in the semester, but my instructor left for the airlines and it took me a few weeks to get a new MEI because a lot of our previous MEIs had also left for the airlines.
