What a true pleasure it has been to get to know many of the 86 nominees for this year’s FMA Solo program. The number of nominees tripled this year. We now have a task to triple our scholarship fund. Each nominee was highly recommended. Each one showed exceptional musical skills, academic achievements, and most of all they possess a strong willingness to help others. To put it simple, they will be future leaders.

By the Numbers

Eighty-six nominees. There were only 6 nominees that we failed to communicate with even after repeated attempts with their nominating music director/teacher. One nominee opted out. So, out of the 80 remaining nominees, 59 successfully completed their profile and the FMA checklist. All 86 were gifted a FMA student membership. As soon as they let us know they have completed the checklist, welcome packages will be shipped.

Finalists

We have selected 8 finalists: Kainoa from British Columbia, Justin from California, Madison from Indiana, Shannon from Massachusetts, Michael from New York, Chloe from Tennessee, Samantha from Virginia, and Achilles from Wyoming. Finalists are being notified today. If you have not been notified and wish to be an alternate, please reach out by March 5, 2023, for consideration.

What does the future hold?

We commend each of the nominees for being nominated for the FMA Solo program. Their hard work and dedication to details will serve them very well in their future. These are the new members that the Flying Musicians Association need to grow and flourish. We hope to interact with all and support them for many years to come through the FMA network.

Not all student musicians will go on to become professionals. Hopefully though, many will continue to keep music in their lives. This is true for many with an early passion for aviation. Not all will fly professionally however, we hope they find that keeping aviation in their life will be beneficial.

Not every nominee will make the finals and not all finalists will receive an award/scholarship. Their passion for aviation and music will make them successful and we hope to be able to be a part of that future success. I encourage them all to stay involved with the association to further explore their passions.
