Music & Aviation: A Perfect Harmony

Founding member Joshua Homet recounts his ascension through music and aviation in this article in the fall issue of AviNation. Josh joined FMA right out of the blocks. Having just graduated from Western Michigan University and into his first gig as a pilot, Josh heard about the formation of the Flying Musicians Association. He eagerly joined as one of the first founding members and went on to be instrumental in the association’s early endeavors through today. Read along as Josh takes us through his journey from student to a Gulfstream Captain at FlexJet (read online at https://issuu.com/avination/docs/avination-fall-2024/10).

University of North Dakota FMA Chapter Celebrates 1st Anniversary

Augustas SenutaHello esteemed flying musicians! My name is Gus Senuta, and I’m the President and Co-Founder of the collegiate FMA Chapter at the University of North Dakota. Several weeks ago, we celebrated our 1-year anniversary at our first meeting of the semester, marking a milestone of our accomplishments since our founding in the fall of 2023. Since then, we have raised over $1,700, co-hosted music jams, and gone on two field trips. We, the founders of the chapter, started out as friends in our freshman year, making music in the UND Wind Ensemble. We grew especially close during field trips with the band, touring various high schools and performing at… Read More

AirVenture 2024

Celebrate FMA’s 15-year anniversary at AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin July 22-28, 2024. Join your fellow pilot – musicians for an aviation and music filled week at the LARGEST aviation event in the world. The schedule is filling quickly: parties, jams, open mics, and even a press conference. This year we would like to honor Jimmy Buffett. Jimmy loved aviation, boating, music, cheeseburgers, and of course, margaritas. Bring your favorite Buffett tune to toast a tribute to the man, the musician, the nautical wheeler, the pirate looks at 40, and… the pilot who flew west. We haven’t heard life member Gary Filip perform at OSH since 2019 – right before the… Read More

FMA at PAPA EXPO 2024

FMA life member and current board member, Louise Vickerman, performed outreach at the Professional Asian Pilots Association‘s, PAPA Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada along with member and Louise’s husband, Pete Margulies. Lots of pilots visited the FMA table to share that they too are musicians. We are looking forward to gaining a few more pilot-musicians to fill the 2025 PAPA Expo with more music. PAPA expo went great, was a fun couple of days. I met a LOT of pilots who were also musicians (including many who did a music degree before switching professions!). The PAPA people were great and really enthusiastic about having us there and for the FMA… Read More

Sun ‘n Fun with the FMA Brass

Jocelyn BewAt this year’s Sun ‘N Fun, I had the honor of playing in the FMA’s brass band! Most years I only get to attend the weekend portion of Sun ‘n Fun, but this made it an exciting week of Aviation, Music, Sun, and Fun! It was great getting to meet other members of the Flying Musicians while combining our shared interests. The weekend before the airshow, the FMA brass rehearsed at Orlando Executive Airport (KORL), which was such a fun experience. Each Saturday this spring, I have been taking our local EAA chapter’s Youth Aviation class. We have built and flown model airplanes, toured the Sheriff’s hangar, built wing… Read More
