Continue ReadingLuke RudoAs a vocalist, spring is a barrage of late-night rehearsals for an upcoming musical and chorus concerts. This spring was slightly more special, knowing it would be the final curtain for my high school performances. This year, I was honored with the role of Uncle Fester in The Addams Family musical. The role is comedic and requires a blend of eccentric charm and heartfelt sincerity, making it both a challenge and a joy to perform. As a bass vocalist, this role was particularly exciting because it allowed me to explore the richness of my higher register while also experimenting with comedic vocal inflections. One of the highlights of playing Fester… Read More
Continue ReadingLacey RayGreetings from western PA! After many weeks of cold and windy winter weather interfering with my flying lessons, I have been blessed to have some sunny weather the last two weekends. The next several weeks will be very full with rehearsals as we prepare for our upcoming musical, “Back to the 80’s,” which opens March 20, but I do have a couple lessons scheduled. I’m hopeful for more good weather for those. I’ve attached a photo from my recent flying lesson, as well as a photo from our musical sitzprobe, where we had our first opportunity to rehearse with the pit band. We are excited to taking the stage… Read More

Tryouts for Far East Band This week I’m trying out for my last Far East Band (all students from US military bases in Asia can compete). I’m nervous, excited, and a bit sad that it’s almost over. Wish me luck! Here’s a flashback photo of me from my freshman year. Proud Parents After one of my flight lessons, my parents showed me a screenshot of my phone’s location while I was flying. And, they took photos of me from our balcony. Because I’m… Read More
Continue ReadingBack in June I was able to participate in the 80th Anniversary Celebration of D-Day in France with the D-Day Collegiate Mass Band! It was comprised of current college students as well as collegiate alumni! It was an amazing experience getting to honor the men and women who gave so much for the freedoms we cherish today. I have attached a link to the parade that we performed in at Sainte-Mère-Église, I hope you enjoy it!by Issac Hill, FMA Solo recipient and Life member, and mentor
Continue ReadingAn update from a proud mom: “I just wanted to send an update to you on my daughter Jocelyn’s progress on her aviation journey. Last year she was one of the finalists for the solo scholarship program (she had fun joining you for Sun ‘n Fun). This past autumn she worked hard balancing her last year of competitive marching band with starting her flight training during an active hurricane season. She is flying out of an amazing location, Space Coast Regional Airport in Titusville, FL – with both amazing views of the NASA facilities and the Warbird Museum at her airport. She soloed on November 26th. Right now, she is… Read More
Continue ReadingFounding member Joshua Homet recounts his ascension through music and aviation in this article in the fall issue of AviNation. Josh joined FMA right out of the blocks. Having just graduated from Western Michigan University and into his first gig as a pilot, Josh heard about the formation of the Flying Musicians Association. He eagerly joined as one of the first founding members and went on to be instrumental in the association’s early endeavors through today. Read along as Josh takes us through his journey from student to a Gulfstream Captain at FlexJet (read online at https://issuu.com/avination/docs/avination-fall-2024/10).

Join your fellow pilot – musicians for an aviation and music filled week at the LARGEST aviation event in the world. The schedule is filling quickly: parties, jams, open mics, and even a press conference. This year we would like to honor Jimmy Buffett. Jimmy loved aviation, boating, music, cheeseburgers, and of course, margaritas. Bring your favorite Buffett tune to toast a tribute to the man, the musician, the nautical wheeler, the pirate looks at 40, and… the pilot who flew west. We haven’t heard life member Gary Filip perform at OSH since 2019 – right before the… Read More
Continue ReadingFMA life member and current board member, Louise Vickerman, performed outreach at the Professional Asian Pilots Association‘s, PAPA Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada along with member and Louise’s husband, Pete Margulies. Lots of pilots visited the FMA table to share that they too are musicians. We are looking forward to gaining a few more pilot-musicians to fill the 2025 PAPA Expo with more music. PAPA expo went great, was a fun couple of days. I met a LOT of pilots who were also musicians (including many who did a music degree before switching professions!). The PAPA people were great and really enthusiastic about having us there and for the FMA… Read More
