Bassist Awarded Swing Wing Scholarship

We are happy to announce that Keatin Hertz, FMA student member and 2024 FMA Solo nominee, has been awarded the 2024 FMA Swing Wing scholarship. Keatin will attend the New York Hot Jazz Camp this April in the Big Apple. “As a participant in the New York Hot Jazz Camp, I will continue my musical journey and growth as a jazz musician. I hope to further expand my knowledge, refine my skills, and explore new avenues of creativity. In particular I am really looking forward to the musicianship and theory opportunities. World Helicopter Day 2023

World Helicopter Day was celebrated at Independent Helicopters, Stewart International Airport, Newburgh, NY. For the 4th year several members in the New England performed for the attendees. Member Sal Lagonia on Trumpet, Sharon Siodmak on Drums, Roger Astudillo on Bass, and Ross Pilot (FMA board member) on Guitar/Vox. Greg Knowles (Northeast ambassador) provided the audio equipment.

(pictures at bottom ) Lots of Flying Musicians will be at AirVenture 2023. Several changes this year. Many have asked why not move the open mic/jam to Friday? Done. Same location (Forum tent in Ultralight area) at time (8-10pm). Taking its place on Thursday evening will be the start of something new coordinated be member Mike Dewey. Mike will coordinate an Irish Trad session (more below). Two notable musicians are unable to attend this year – John Vining (North Central Ambassador) and Gary Filip (Life Member). Summer so far!!
