FMA Swing Wing Scholarship
NY Hot Jazz Camp

Announcing the Flying Musicians Swing Wing scholarship to the NY Hot Jazz Camp in New York city.

We are proud to offer a music scholarship in addition to the annual Learn to Fly scholarship – FMA Solo program. This scholarship is open to all Flying Musician members 18 to 28 years old (under 18 with parental consent may be considered) with a basic proficiency on their instrument. For application process, see below. Please download the prospectus for details about the camp.

The New York Hot Jazz Camp is an immersive experience with New York’s finest traditional jazz musicians and recording artists, founded in 2015 by Co-Directors Molly Ryan and Bria Skonberg.  We aim to provide instruction to musicians of all skill levels, who want to further their knowledge of classic jazz in a positive and supportive environment. The curriculum pulls from jazz’s inception in the Southern US through its journey to New York and Chicago in the 1920s and ’30s and subsequent West Coast stylings.  Each Spring the NYHJC hosts a weeklong intensive camp in the heart of Greenwich Village where a maximum of 48 participants take part in masterclasses, workshops, private lessons, lectures, and ensemble rehearsals.  In 2018 the NYHJC partnered with Prohibition Productions to co-present the Gotham Jazz Festival, a 12-hour musical marathon celebrating local talent as well as the final concert of all students and faculty.

Current needs: Drums x 2, Bass or Tuba x 3, Clarinet or Saxophone x 1, Trombone x 4 as of February 12, 2023. This will be updated periodically.
